Looking for some quick DIY Christmas gifts that will keep giving throughout the winter and keeps you away from the mall?
Look no further; we came up with three, 5-minute recipes that will keep your loved ones, warm, relaxed and soft throughout this dry and cold winter.
1) Sugar Lip Scrub
This dry Alberta winter has us waking up with dry and chapped lips that most lip chaps cannot solve. This sugar scrub helps remove that dry skin and comes infused with rosehip seed oil that makes your lips kissable once again. Not to mention it tastes like dessert.
Organic cane sugar
Rind of one lemon
Lemon essential oil
Lavender essential oil
Rosehip seed oil
Coconut oil (melted)
Simply mix all the ingredient in one bowl. There should be enough oil in it to coat the sugar but not enough to leave it runny. The only trick is to let the coconut oil cool before adding it to the sugar, so the sugar does not melt. Once you place the mixture in a glass jar, it will solidify as the coconut oil cools.
2) Coffee Scrub
Love the sweet smell of a good cup of Joe in the morning? Well, how about adding it to your shower routine. This body scrub is meant to exfoliate and moisten your skin leaving you feeling silky smooth. The natural occurring caffeine from the coffee bean is also superb for any inflammation and redness. However, be careful not to scrub too hard!
Coffee beans, ground
Organic cane sugar
Orange essential oil
Patchouli essential oil
Grind the coffee beans. You want to make sure that they are not coarse enough to leave pointy edges but not as fine as a powder.
Add all the ingredients in a bowl and mix
Place in a jar of your choice and decorate!
3) Candy Cane Epsom Salt Soak
Warm up after a frosty winter day with a relaxing bath. This Epsom salt combo makes for the perfect DIY gift for a special someone. Epsom salts are a high source of magnesium which helps de-stress, relax and ease joint and muscle pain. The added peppermint oil is fantastic for relieving muscle and joint pain, skin inflammation and may help relieve sinus pain and headaches. Something many people in Alberta struggle with during the shifting temperatures in winter.
1 kg Bag of Westpoint Epsom Salt
2 Cups Himalayan Sea Salt (Fine or coarse)
5 Drops Peppermint Essential Oil (you can also use Japanese Mint Oil)
3 Drops Vanilla Essential Oil (optional)
Open the bag of Epsom Salt and drop the essential oils in it, close it and give it a great shake!
Now Layer your jar, rotating the Himalayan salts and Epsom salts. This makes for a cute candy-cane like jar, just in time for the holidays!
Tip: If you are looking for a stronger scent, you can put up to 50 drops of Japanese Mint Oil or up to 20 drops of essential oils.
